Blog Hop with StencilGirl and Kae Pea

Welcome to the Kae Pea StencilGirl Bloghop!

I had fun creating a little night scene with stencil and stamps by Kae Pea (Kristen Powers).  I started by covering my canvas (or wood in my case) with musical tissue paper, letting it dry.

I then sketched out a circle from Kae Pea's Simple Geo circle stencil available from StencilGirl Products. It is a great stencil with lots of different size circles!

Once I had the scene sketched, I painted in the sky purple, the moon yellow and wiped away some paint to allow the tissue paper to show through.

The purple was a little much for me so I added a Pthalo Turquoise over it to make it more "night time" looking. I painted in the grass green.

I then used this lovely stamp from Rubbermoon Stamps (also by Kae Pea) to stamp on this tree to my night time scene using white paint.

I filled in some of the stamp with Raw Umber and colored the stars yellow.  I added some white around the moon to create a "glow".  I then used my thumbs to make two cats.  I don't know why I thought of cats for this, because I don't own any cats, but it just said "cats" to me.

I fell in love with this stamp from Rubbermoon!  It's kind of their logo and I love it.  I really LOVE the moon and I just love her face here! I knew this was my moon for my painting!

However, once I stamped it on…I realized it was not proportional enough for the moon I painted.  Can you see the faint stamp I tried to rub off?  So I was perplexed.  What could I do? I really wanted my moon to have a face.

Instead of being able to use this lovely stamp this time, I decided to use it for inspiration and I drew in my moon face.  (my face is not nearly as cute as the stamp but I guess she was the face that was meant to come out in the piece!!) After she was drawn in, I used a palette knife and added in some texture in the grass, filled out my cats and voila ~ a dreamy night scene!

Got to love some purple kitties, eh?

I added a bit of glitter around the moon for some sparkle!  Hope you have a sparkling moon in your future soon!

I then added a quote by ee cummings that says, "yours is the light by which my spirit is born. you are my sun, my moon and all my stars."

I hope you enjoyed! For more free art tutorials visit my website at www.KirstenReedDesigns.com or subscribe to my blog above.  I hope 2014 is a great year for you!
