Everything is Groovin' with StencilGirl Bloghop

I am one of those people that links a song to everything.  So when I got to play with this amazing Groove Tool (by Momenta) I of course cued up "Groovin'...on a Sunday afternoon" in my head as I painted.  

I absolutely loved working with this little gem!  And although it has many functions - sanding, inking, distressing and painting - I only used it for painting with some stencils for this post. 

But oh-- I just know I will be using it again and again!

So on to the project...

I began by using a little 5"x7" canvas I had created with packing tape from my ®GelliPlate when I was cleaning it.  Since the canvas had lots of gold and a bit of teal, I stuck with that color palette.

Nothing but tape so far.

I grabbed the Lila stencil by Lizzy Mayne and laid it on the canvas and used some teal paint with the Groove Tool. woohoo! It was fun, easy and so quick and neat!

I repeated the process with brown paint and the Warped Holes stencil, also by Lizzy Mayne.

I purposely went only around the edges because I wanted space to draw.  Using my stabilo MarksAll Pencil I sketched in a bee on the left side of the canvas.

I then added in Maria McGuire's Tiny Medallion stencil in the bottom right corner; first with brown and then with gold. 

And then, I had to had the phrase "Don't worry Bee Happy" which I did with the help of Carolyn Dube's Vintage Typewriter stencil in lowercase.

And that was it ~ that's how I went groovin with the Groove Tool !  Cue the music! #grooveon

Feeling a little Loose

Been painting visions of spring lately and that usually includes some florals.  I usually love my florals that are loose in nature and just come together very organically. Here is progression of one recent piece.

I created a background of vintage ledger sheets, maps, wallpaper and molding paste using StencilGirl's Art Nouveau stencil by Lizzy Mayne.

I then drew out my floral and began loosely painting in and around, adding in more charcoal and pen as I went until I was finished.

Poem, Paint & Paper Towels

Yes, this is all about poems, paint and paper towels!  How in the world?  Well, I keep a paper towel close by me when I am working on a painting. I like to swab the brush on it before I rinse it in water.  This way the water doesn't get dirty as quickly and the brush gets cleaner.  

Because I often leave my mess (when in progress) over night, I came to my studio the next morning to find a beautiful paper towel all colored with my marks.  I couldn't throw it away and immediately set it on a 6x6 canvas with gel medium and molding paste through Lizzy Mayne's Bali Doily stencil at StencilGirl Products.

Now it sat there in My Lonely Tribe of Backgrounds for weeks.  But recently I pulled it out and painted some doodles on it.  I only had time to create something small ~ so it was perfect.

Around the same time, I was journaling with words from books and decided to take some words as my focal point for my beautifully abstract painting and I wrote a little poem

the glitter

exhaled an atmosphere of

soul

from my lips

I sprinkled in some glitter ...

and set the painting with resin. See my previous post here on trying resin on your art.  This is the kind I used.
